In this section of Math, I found quite a lot of things interesting. However, one thing that stayed with me, was the trick of multiplying by 9. It helped me in a lot of places.
Step 1: Look at the equation. 14 x 9 = ?
Step 2: To multiply them together, multiply by 10. (Which is much easier) 14 x 10 = ?
Step 3: Solve the equation with the 10. 14 x 10 = 140
Step 4: Take the product and minus ONE of the numbers you used in the equation (NOT the 9 or 10). You want to do this, because you wanted 9 groups of that number, NOT 10. 140 - 14 = ?
Step 5: Solve the equation, once again. 140 - 14 = 126
Step 6: Dance around in circles, because you are done!
That is what I think helped me the most in this part of Math. Remember to study! You don't want to become some poor bum on the street, begging for money or trying to buy underwear, because you don't have any. A healthy mind, is a good mind!

I have no clue about a trick to divide three digit numbers by 9, but I assume Mr. K has one and is just not sharing it with people. =O

The spreadsheets easy and slightly difficult at the same time. It all depends on the directions of what you need to do. HOWEVER, I think I found these a lot easier, because when we started Spreadsheets, in my Advanced Keyboarding class two days later, we started Spreadsheets as well. So they both balanced each other and I'm still doing Spreadsheets in my other class. =]

i have a clue about your question, veronique,this how it is,
432/9=48
simply put the first figure of the dividend down as it is, so its 4,
4 is our first number of our answer,
then add diagonally to get the next quotient digit.so, its 4+3=7
7 is our 2nd number of our answer,
but 47 is not our final answer.
next step is to add the 7+2=9.
actually the digit of 9 or more is not permitted because we are trying to find how many 9's are there in 432,so there's 1 nine in 9
so we must add that 1 into 47,so the final answer is 48.
Hi James, I really liked your blog! That step is awesome and so helpful in math. I am taking a math course next semester so I am going to make sure to use this quick trick! Now I have a question for either you or Vincent with Vincents example. The Question just seems too perfect! I really like the helpful trick but I'm a bit confused on the last step. What happens if the answer is 11?
Would you be able to show me another example?

here's another example,
543/9=60.3
simply put the first figure of the dividend down as it is, so its 5
5 is our first number of our answer
then add diagonally to get the next quotient, 5+4=9
9 is our 2nd number of our answer,
we get now two digit number, 59
then add again diagonally the 9 into 3, 9+3=12,
like i said before in the first example, 9 or more is not permitted because we're trying to find how many nines are there in 543,and we can see that there's 1 nine in 12 and a remainder 3,
then add 59 and the 1 and remainder 3 or 1.3 to get the final answer,59+1.3=60.3
