November 15, 2007 Scribe Post.

What we learned in class today, was how to use some techniques in Spreadsheets. It's interesting because the spreadsheets that we used was a lot different from the other spreadsheets we usually use. I also learned how to make a new page on http://cm20sf07.pbwiki.com; Not only do we have our own page as a class, but we also could put our assignments, and we can make our own spreadsheets. We may edit it and publish it so other people may see it. I also learned how to get answers on using basic Formulas to figure out the result of an equation more easily.

For example:
= Sum (B3:D3)
=Average (A1:A11)

*The next scribe will be Melchor.

Hi BatangX,

I couldn't find your page on the wiki! Did you use a different name? I used the display all pages option.

Now that you've discovered how to use basic formulas to find answers to equations, I'm wondering how you're feeling about using technology as a tool for learning math??

Best,
Lani

Spreadsheets are a very useful tool and especially if you want to use the information within the sheet and graph it. I chaalenge you to explore some different formulas and to take some information maybe from your assignment and graph it. See if you can learn how to graph using to spreadsheet on your own.

Hello BatangX,

I am very glad to see you are using spreadsheets. They are quite popular and very helpful. Did you ever think of ways that you could use spreadsheets in your everyday life? I challenge you to come up with some ideas of how to use spreadsheets in your regular life. And perhaps you could set up a template for how you would use them. What about if you made a monthly budget using a spreadsheet? What would that look like and what are some of the formulas you would use?

Thank you,
Tawna B.

I'm very glad to see that you have discovered the great use of spread sheets. Spread sheets are a great tool and I encourage you to take full advantage of there many uses. I'm wondering have you thought about how you may be able to use a spread sheet as another tool to help you learn and maybe better understand the mathematical concepts that you are exploring?

Hi BatangX,

Spreadsheets are very useful when you know how to use them properly. I use spreadsheets in my chemistry class and it makes assignments a lot easier. I use Microsoft Excel. What program do you use?

Besides calculating formulas, spreadsheets can also create graphs and charts with your data. I encourage you to ask your teacher how to do this because figuring it out on your own can be very tricky. Also, can you think of why creating graphs may be useful to your everyday life?
