September 06, 2007 Scribe

Today in class we learned about Sisyphus if he was a villain, victim, or hero. Most people thought he was a villain because of all the cruel things he done to people and should be punished. I'm not sure if anybody said he was a victim. Mr. Kuropatwa says in his opinion, he is a hero. He said that Sisyphus knows that the boulder is going to roll down the mountain. But he just goes back down and starts pushing it up the mountain without a tantrum or a fuss. He also said to remember Sisyphus.

We also talked about the curve of forgetting, attendance policy, the critical path to success, and the escalator video.

Hi Joyce,

What an honor! You've completed the first scribe of the course!

Thanks for sharing all you experienced in class; I'm wondering -- what did you think when you saw the escalator video? and how did you classify Sisyphus?

Best,
Lani

Hey Lani,

Thanks. This is actually my first scribe ever. The escalator video was pretty funny from the first time I saw it. But then I realized that the video has to deal with school.

I classified Sisyphus as a villian because of the cruel things he has done to the people.

Hi again Joyce!

Thank you for answering my questions!!

The escalator video made me laugh out loud; a bit different from your class (I just listened to the podcast --pretty neat that I can visit your class from some 1000 miles away without leaving home). I agree with you that it has to do with school. Can you share with me how? I'm interested in what you think!

Hello again Lani,

The escalator video confused me a bit. I was wondering why it had to deal with school. I thought common sense. But when I think about it, its like this; A teacher can't always be there for you and carry you to the top, you have to learn to do things yourself and carry yourself up to the top. Thats what i think of the escalator video.

Joyce

Hi Joyce,

I think your interpretation of the video is exactly right!

I'll be watching and cheering as you carry yourself to the top in math this semester!
