Today we started the class in grouping and we got three problem to solve the title are Summer Wages, everyone has to pay their dues, and what does Mary Rose take Home.

I want to show the solution of this problem "what does Mary Rose take home", I found this problem is to helpful to me I hope you guys do to.

What Does Mary Rose Take Home?
Mary Rose works part time and is paid $500.00 gross pay semi-monthly.For her wages she estimates her CPP contribution to be about 3% of her gross pay, her EI contribution to be about 2% of her gross pay, and her income tax about 20%.

(a) Find Mary Roses' estimated total deductions and net pay.
(b) Find Mary Roses' actual total deductions and net pay.

a) 3%/100%=0.03 2%/100%=0.02 20%/100%=0.2
0.03 * $500.00=$15 0.02*$500=$10 0.2*$500=$100

CPP=$ 15 $ 500 b) $500 $500
EI=$ 10 -$ 125 CPP=$ 17.53 -$140.33
FT=$ 100 ______ EI=$ 66.80 _______

PT=$ 100 $ 375/net pay FT=$ 47.00 $359.67/net pay

This is my Blogging on Bogging, in our last lesson about wages and salaries; I learn a lot of things. for example: how much money a worker earn if she/hi work in this hours: M-9, T-9, W-8, TH-7, F-10 and his/her wages per hour is $12.00

Solution:

* add all the hours
9+9+8+7+10 = 43 hours
* multiply the total hours to the wages per hour
$12.00x43 hours=$516.00
then the total salaries that the worker eared is $516.00

This lesson in wage and salaries is really gonna help us in our day to day especially the working student.

Choosing the best option in rising the hourly wage

In our lesson, we didn't do mental math as we usually do instead Mr. K group us into six group. Then Mr. K gave us a problem to solve. The question is about finding the new salary if a worker get a percent rise or a dollar rise in a regular wage,and which option is better take, for example:

The manager give the employee a two option to choose to rise their regular hourly wage, first option, additional $3.00 for every hours a worker work and the second option is 25% rise of their regular wage every hour. The worker regular wage per hour is $10.00.Which option should a worker take to rise his regular wage more higher?


solution:

option 1

hourly wage + additional pay= new hourly wage
$10.00 + $3.00= $13.00


option 2

percent rise/100%= decimal answer
25%/100%= 0.25
(decimals)(hourly wage)=additional pay
0.25 x $10.00= $2.50
hourly wage + additional pay=new hourly wage
$10.00+ $2.50= $12.50


The worker should choose the first option because his regular hourly wage rise $3.00 than the second option that only rise by $2.50.

payroll deductions

Yesterday in class we basically left off where we started.. We are now learning about payroll deductions. First we started off with the CPP, EI, and also the Income taxes. and now we are adding other things like insurances, dental plans, and union dues. for example when you have union dues they don't get taxed. Just as we did the other day.. Here's an example:
Find Al Passey's net pay for the week. His claim code is 7, his weekly salary is $385.00, and he pays union dues of $3.80, a dental plan premium of $1.85, and the usual CPP, EI, and income tax deductions. He is paid weekly.
gross: $385.00
CPP - $15.73
EI - $6.93
(gross pay)$385.00 - $3.80(union dues) = $381.20
Federal Tax - 0
Provincial Tax - $2.65
Dental Plan - $1.85
$15.73 + $6.93 + $2.65 + $1.85 = $27.16
$385.00 - $27.16 = $357.84
note: the union dues didn't count for the federal tax and the provincial tax

Taxes

Hello, today we have learned about different kinds of deductions not all deductions are taxable the one that Mr. Kuropatwa taught us is the union dues deduction when were getting the EI(Employment Insurance) and CPP(Canada Pension Plan) we use the gross pay and when were getting the Federal Tax and Provincial Tax were gonna deduct the non taxable deduction like the union dues to the gross pay and we gonna get the "Taxable Income" and this is what were going to use to get the Federal Tax and Provincial Tax.

Hello, sorry if i misspelt some words, i can't type on this computer well. Its slow, so anyways.

Everything we've learned about wages and salaries are kind of easy to me.

Finding the gross pay by multiplying how many hours you worked and your regular hourly pay.

Gross pay = (Regular Hourly Pay) (Hours you worked)

Ex.

Gross pay = ($9.00) (40) = $ 360.00


Then it gets more specific if you worked more hours than usual. Then you have to figure out their overtime hours, then their overtime pay. After you figure out those two, then you have to find your regular hours and your regular pay. After all of that, you add the overtime pay and the regular pay.

Step 1
Add all the hours together
Step 2
Figure out your overtime hours (Subtract total hours by your regular hours)
Step 3
Overtime pay = (wage)(Overtime hours)(overtime rate)
Step 3
Regular pay = (wage)(regular hour)
Step 4
Gross Pay = Overtime pay + Regular Pay


Ex.
Chang M.
M-10 T-7 W-8 TH-8.5 F-9
Hourly Wage $7.65
Earns time and a half if they work more than 40 hours.

1. 10+7+8+8.5+9 = 42.5 of hours

2. 42.5 - 40 = 2. 5 overtime hours

3. ($7.65) (2.5) (1.5) = $28.69 overtime pay

4. ($7.65) (40) = $306.00 regular pay

5. $28.69 + 306.00 = $334.69 Gross pay


Pretty simple right? Sometimes its 'double pay' instead of 'time and a half'. Just read questions carefully.

Then we learned about using timecards. The first time, i had a difficult time, but i understood after one whole class and did the questions that were from homework and the example from the smartboard.

Sometimes when your a minute late to work, you get 1 quarter(.25) taken away from your pay. Also, pretend your late 16 minutes, then it would be half (.5) taken away. And so on..

I found it alot easier if you keep practicing on the questions that you have most difficult. For me, I'm still rusty on my timecards. But if i keep practicing the questions all over. It would be easy for me at the end.

I thought our last unit on "wages and salaries", was basically knowing how to multiply numbers together to get a final answer. At first, i found it confusing to figure out the gross pay after someone has worked overtime because of their overtime rate, which was either 1.5 (time and a half) or 2 (double time), depending on how much their employer pays them for working extra hours. To me it was simple to calculate the gross pay after i memorized a formula for each scenario.

GROSS PAY ( without overtime ) = total hours x hourly rate
GROSS PAY ( OT - time & a half ) = total hours x hourly rate x 1.5
GROSS PAY ( OT - double time ) = total hours x hourly rate x 2

In the beginning, i kept forgetting to multiply the total hours and the hourly rate by either 1.5 or 2, to get the total pay or gross pay including overtime pay, but after practicing and doing my homework, i got the hang of it. Something i found difficult was calculating time on time cards, and i don't think i'm the only one. I think a few of us had a hard time, 'cause we were used to calculating from 100 instead of 60. I had no problems with hours that ended in 00, 15, 30, or 45, what i had trouble with was hours that started or ended in odd numbers like 07, or 39 for example, but after Mr. K. did a few questions with us in class and showed us multiple ways to find the total hours, i understood it better and found it easier to do. The strategy i found easiest to use is when you begin with the starting time, find out how many minutes it is until the following hour, then use the following hour, and figure out how many hours is between it and the last hour worked, then i take the last hour and find how much time is between it and the last minute worked.
FOR EXAMPLE:
If someone works from 8:07 AM to 11:59 AM, I'd find out the answer like this..

8:07 AM - 9:00 AM = 53 mins.
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM = 2 hrs.
11:00 AM - 11:59 AM = 59mins.

...53 mins
...02 hrs
+ 59 mins
02 hrs & 112 mins

since 112 mins. is more than an hour, you deduct 60 (an hour) from it, and get 52 remaining minutes, and since you subtracted 60 mins from 112 mins, don't forget to add that 1 hr to the 2 hrs you already had. Thus, our answer becomes 3 hrs & 52 mins, if I'm not mistaken.

This is my BOB. I'm not sure whether we're supposed to answer all the questions or not, so here I go. I think everyone will agree with me when I say that the rapid math tricks we've learned have made math a lot easier. Knowing me, I am not good at mental math but thankfully Mr.Kuropatwa taught us the 'shortcut'. One of the things I found difficult at the beginning was keeping "track of time" only because I wasn't sure what it meant by "quarter" of an hour and so forth. I get it now because I kind of looked at it the way I would look at money, because a quarter of a dollar is $0.75, and a quarter of an hour is .75 also. This is the end of my blog, enjoy!

Taxes

Today we learned about different tax fees from a booklet and these different tax fees that we have discussed are:
1. CPP ( Canada Pension Plan )
2. EI ( Employment Insurance )
3. Federal Taxes
4. Provincial taxes

These tax fees are to be found in the book which tells you the amount of tax added to the money. One more thing that Mr K. explained well is that some of the taxes like in federal and provincial taxes, there are differences in some the pages which says on the left/right top corner of the booklet saying " Biweekly " and " Weekly ". Also, you need to know which column of the following tax i being asked. that's what i have learned in todays class. Nightz people .. =)

Time Card

In this lesson I found that I can use this in my daily life, in my future. I can keep track in my working hours by my own w/o asking any help from my co-workers, when I have doubt in my working hours if they make mistakes.....

In the lesson, Wages and Salaries, I have learned quite a bit of things I never knew before. "Multiplying Teens" was one of the tricks that interested me. I didn't know that the answer could be found in the question, which was pretty cool. One part of this lesson I found confusing was figuring out the hours a person worked, if the time wasn't precise. But, we worked more on this in class and I could say I improved on it. I feel that I have learned a lot in this lesson, but, I could still do much better.

hey guys we did the mental math yesterday which we normally do in beginning of the class and then he give us five minutes to do the mental math. therefore he give us a quiz to do and after the quiz he went through the quiz with us, i guess that is all i remember from yesterday.

Wages and Salaries,Hours and Minutes

In our lesson Wages and Salaries, i learn a lot of things that gonna help me when i'm going to get a job.I know now how to get how much money i will earn if i work from this hour and end in this hour,coz some company are not honest to their employee.In finding hours and minutes, it help me too when i'm going to get a job.I learn now how to get the exact hours and minutes if i work from this hour and end in this hour, coz i said before that not all company are honest to their workers. In mental math, i learn a lot lot of things and "tactics" to solve a problem without using a calculator.Its really improve my ability to solve a problem.I feel great that i learn this well.

Blogging on Blogging

I found that the Multiplying Teens were useful to me. In Science, I had to multiply a few numbers with teens in them to find the total number of atoms or something. It was good that I finished that faster, than the other people who were using a calculator to find that answer. But the point is, I found the Multiplying Teens trick was really useful to me. It not only taught me something new, but it helped me in my other class.

Mental Math & Time

In yesterdays class the first thing that Mr Kuropatwa said to us was how it is important to learn and not to be afraid of asking questions. Mr Kuropatwa had a example on how it is important to learn. Like a doctor it takes hard work and years to become a doctor. If you had 50% in all of your subjects in school you wont be able to become a doctor because you have low marks. Only the people that really wants to learn and gets 90% or over can become a doctor. In mental math he explain the things we had learn from the past like finding 10%. If the number is 2004, 10 percent of that number is 200.4. All you have to do is put a dot one place from the left. Also we learned how to round to the nearest quarter of an hour. So there are 60 minutes in a hour. 4 quarters add up to a dollar so its like a clock but its not 25 quarters its 15 quarters. Because 15 +15 = 30 min that's half an hour of the clock+15+15 = 60 min which equals up to 1 Hour or 15x4 = 60 min as well. Just REMEMBER 4 equal sliced pizzas when your looking at a clock. Now pushing to the nearest quarter. If the time is 7:09 you push it to the nearest quarter of an hour. So it would be 7:15. If it was 7:07 you have to push the clock back and it would be 7:00 because its the nearest quarter to that time.

calculiting time

yesterday, I learn about how to find the total of this question 9:15 to 12:30. first,subtract the 9 10 12 and we get 3. If you use a calculator, you will get negative 3,But we were talking about the hours, so you must put the negative sign even if you got it. with negative, because there's no negative sign when were talking about hour's. then the next thing to do subtract 15 minutes to 60 minutes(1 hour) and you got 45 minutes,then subtract again the 30 minutes to 60 minutes (1 hour) and you got 30 minutes.then subtract those minutes that you subtract before you will get 15 minutes. then the final answer is 3:15 minutes

Today in math we did our usual mental math test. Mr. kuropatwa taught us an easier way to multiply. For example if we needed to multiply $6.25 x 4 instead of doing it the more difficult way and multiplying it by 4 or multiplying each digit.. we could take $6.25 and times it by 2 and that gives you $12.50 and then you take $12.50 and times it by another 2 then you get $25.00.
Another example is ..
$14.25 x 4
$14.25 x 2 = $28.50
$28.50 x 2 =$57.00

Today in class, we started off with mental math, like we usually do. After correcting eachothers papers, Mr. Kuropatwa taught us a new trick: Multiplying "Teens". For example: 17 x 15. You take any of the two numbers and add it with the ones digit of the other number, like 17 and 5. You then take the sum of the two numbers, which is 22, and mulitply it by 10. You get 220. You take the ones digit of both 17 and 15 and multiply it together to get 35. After that, you add 220 and 35 to get your final answer, which is 255. We also did some questions on the smartboard and you should always show your work step by step.
